Google Chrome Microphone Settings & Troubleshooting

Need help selecting or troubleshooting your microphone used for making dials out of Symbo? Read this article.

Google Chrome is the best web browser to with Symbo. This article will show you how to make sure that your microphone permissions are configured properly and that you have the correct input device selected.

Microphone Permissions

1. Open Google Chrome on your computer.

2. Click on the three dots icon in the top right corner of the window and select "Settings" from the dropdown menu.

3. Scroll down to the "Privacy and security" section and click on "Site Settings."

4. Under "Permissions," click on "Microphone."

5. Make sure that the toggle switch next to "Sites can ask to use your microphone" is turned on. This will ensure that you are prompted for permission before any website can access your microphone.

6. Scroll down to the "Blocked" section and make sure that https://app.symbo.ai is not listed there. If it is, click on the trash can icon next to it to remove it from the list.

7. Launch the Symbo Dialer by clicking the phone icon on the right hand side of the upper nav bar.

8. You will be prompted to allow app.symbo.ai to use your microphone when you start your first call. Click "Allow" to let Symbo use your microphone for your calls.

Selecting Your Microphone

1. If you have multiple microphones connected to your computer, make sure that you have selected the correct one in Google Chrome. To do this, go back to the "Microphone" section under "Site Settings" and click on the dropdown menu next to "Microphone."

2. Select the correct microphone from the list of available devices.

3. Close the settings tab and navigate to Symbo.

4. When prompted to allow the website to access your microphone, click "Allow." You may have already done this. If so, you can skip this step.

5. Your microphone should now be configured properly for use with Symbo in Google Chrome.

Further Troubleshooting

If you microphone still is not working properly for your dialer, there are a few things that you can try to resolve the issue:

  1. Reset Chrome permissions for Symbo

  2. Turn off Exclusive-Mode for a Windows Audio Device

  3. Restart your computer

  4. Select the correct audio input or use a different headset

  5. Contact support

1. Reset Chrome permissions for Symbo

1. Click on the three dots icon in the top right corner of the window and select "Settings" from the dropdown menu.

2. Under the "Privacy and security" section, click on "Site Settings".

3. Click on "View permissions and data stored across sites".

4. Find "symbo.ai" in the list of sites and click the trash icon to the right.

5. Try placing a call on Symbo. You will be prompted to "Allow" access to your microphone.

6. After allowing access to your microphone, check that you have the correct microphone selected be clicking the microphone or video icon to the right side of the url bar.

7. If the incorrect microphone is selected, follow the Selecting your Microphone section to select your microphone. (Tip: click "Manage" to go to directly to "Microphone" settings.)

2. Turn off Exclusive-Mode for a Windows Audio Device

If you are using Windows, there is a chance that another application is taking exclusive control over your microphone and not allowing Google Chrome access when you are trying to use the Symbo dialer. To disable this option follow these isnstructions:

1. Right-click on the speaker icon in the system tray and select "Playback devices".

2. Click on the "Recording" tab on the top of the "Sound" window.

3. Click on the microphone device that you want to use to make calls out of Symbo.

4. Click "Properties"

5. Under the "Advanced" tab, uncheck "Allow applications to take exclusive control of this device".

6. Restart your computer to make sure the new settings take effect.

3. Restart your computer

Restarting your computer can fix microphone issues by clearing cache and temporary files, resetting audio settings and drivers, and resolving hardware conflicts that might be affecting the microphone. It is a simple but effective solution to try before troubleshooting further or seeking additional assistance.

4. Select the correct audio input or use a different headset

Some devices have multiple inputs to select from. Try selecting the other input to see if it solves the problem.

This is especially true with bluetooth devices. Bluetooth devices can sometimes have multiple inputs because they are designed to be versatile and able to connect to multiple sources.

In such cases, it is important to select the correct input in the device settings to ensure that the microphone is recognized and utilized properly. Otherwise, the device may default to a different input or not recognize the microphone at all, leading to issues with audio quality or the inability to use the microphone.

If you can't get your bluetooth device to work properly, you may have a better call quality experience with a quality set of wired noise cancelling headphones.
